Keith Douglas

Keith was born in Southern California where grew up with his five sisters and credits his extremely competitive nature, instilled at a very young age, to his three older sisters. In his attempts to keep up with them, he excelled in athletics and education. Keith always made final cuts for many sports growing up like; volleyball, track, baseball, and football but never got to realize his full potential in any one sport because his family moved so often.

Fast forward to living in LA on his own. and looking to step outside of his comfort zone Keith decided to take a few classes at Reebok LAB. He was aware of the sport but lacked the confidence to try it until he met Ben, another tall skinny guy like Keith. Ben inspired Keith by showing him he could do everything the more muscular guys could do and sometimes even better. They became fast friends and encouraged each other to be consistent, competed against and cheered each other on, and made each other better. Keith was finally proud of his body and for the first time in his life he realized being skinny was not the same as being weak. He had proven to himself that he was strong. Gaining several pounds of muscle along the way was just a huge plus but no longer a goal or even a thought.

Along the journey he remembered his sisters wiping the floor with their male competition in sports and remembered, “if they could do it, so can I”. Seeing that women can absolutely do everything men can gave him a desire as a man to live up to his full potential. From day one he had phenomenal guidance from female coaches like Yumi & Luci at Reebok LAB who know what it’s like to be underestimated based on appearance and use knowledge and strength to rise above it. Keith listened to them and took their advice to heart while gradually becoming an athlete newer members would come to for help. He went on to get fitness certifications, shadow veteran coaches, assist, and became a coach himself. He cheers for everyone but has a huge place in his heart for the “Under Dogs” since he has and will always identify as one.

Keith’s motto: It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”

First Workout

I don’t remember the workout but it was with Coach Luci Eisen. I remember being nervous but confident because I had done H.I.I.T. classes before at another gym. The workout confirmed my suspicions that these classes were much more difficult and although I barely survived, I did and I was hooked. I saw so much room for improvement and knew consistency would be key.
